"Beautifully choreographed and flawlessly arranged, the trip was an experience I shall never forget. All thanks to your expertise. I can't say enough for the choice of theater shows, restaurants and personal tours. The only thing you couldn't control were the brief showers, but even they did nothing to dampen our spirits. The people in the party were a joy to be with and the size of the group made it all the more personal."
~ Doris Kramer, Seminole FL

"I know that I will be reliving this trip for a long time."

Monday, December 1 - Your airfare will be booked aboard British Airways into London, Heathrow. You will meet your escorts, Chad Gerlt and Liz Enea on departure in Kansas City. MTH will arrange a mid-afternoon departure on Monday for arrival in London on Tuesday morning. Round trip airfare is included in the trip cost. However, please register early as our published trip price may increase with airfare cost.

Tuesday, December 2 - Upon arrival we will board a private coach for transportation into London and the Thistle Marble Arch Hotel. This superior class hotel is next to Hyde Park and the Oxford Street shopping district. The West End Theatre District, The Church of Saint Martin-in-the-Fields and the National Gallery are nearby and easily available by tube (subway). A London tube pass will be provided to each traveler. The afternoon is then free to rest or explore.

This evening we will travel by tube a short way to Simpsons-in-the-Strand at the Savoy Hotel. Here we will get acquainted over cocktails and a traditional British roast beef dinner, hosted by trip escorts Chad Gerlt & Liz Enea.

Wednesday, December 3 - A full monty each morning is included in the trip cost (WW II Brisish military slang for a full English breakfast). A Blue Badge guide will join us this morning as we board private transportation for a London city sights and history tour. Highlights include Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, Smithfield Market, Covent Garden, Westminster Abby, St. Paul's Cathedral, Globe Theatre, and more. After the tour, the rest of the afternoon is free.

This evening we have tickets to see Cabaret, the 1966 classic by Kander & Ebb, with its dark look at Berlin during its wide-open days before the rise of fascism. It isn't often that one gets a chance to see a fully staged, professional production of Cabaret, and this London production has received rave reviews.

Thursday, December 4 - Optional: join Chad and Liz this morning for a visit to the home of Charles Dickens and its collection of material relating to the great Victorian novelist and social commentator,. Visitors can see paintings, rare editions, manuscripts, original furniture, and many items relating to Dickens home life and London during the Victorian era.

Afterwards, it's a London pub crawl beginning with a fish & chips lunch at The Cittie of Yorke pub. From here, Chad and Liz will lead you to two other historic London pubs for a pint: The Cheshire Cheese, for its literary traditions on Fleet Street, and The Red Lion, a favorite of MPs near the Houses of Parliament.

This evening we will meet in the lobby of the hotel for our theater outing tonight. The London theater seasons for December have not yet been announced, so we are watching the trades for available musicals in the West End, or a new play with a leading star. On our last trip we happened to catch Kevin Spacey in A Moon for the Misbegotten.

Friday, December 5 - Optional: at 9:00 AM we will board a train and travel together to Stratford-upon-Avon for the day. We will enjoy the beautiful English countryside along the way arriving at 11:15 AM. Of course, this is the birthplace of the greatest writer of the English language: William Shakespeare. Travelers with us today can visit his birthplace in the heart of this charming town and walk alongside the River Avon to Trinity Church were the Bard's remains where interred upon his death in 1616.

At 5:00 PM we will return to London arriving back at 7:15 PM. The evening is free for dinner plans, relaxing, or a night out in London.

Saturday, December 6 - Today will be an excellent opportunity to tour London's museums and art galleries. Or you could visit Harrods and Christmas shop along High Holborn and Bond Street. London holds a great variety of things, which inpired Dr. Samuel Johnson to once write: "When one is tired of London, one is tired of life".

This evening we will travel to the very prestigious Royal Opera House for a performance of Les Contes d' Hoffmann, starring Rolando Villazón in the title role. This will be one of the very few full, lavish treatments of Jacque Offenbach's only true opera, in which the poet Hoffmann awaits his lover in a tavern while he recalls the disturbing stories of three lost loves; The first a mechanical doll, the second a deceiving courtesan, and the third a consumtive singer.

Sunday, December 7 - Today is left open for you to attend services at Saint Martin-in-the-Fields or St. Paul's Church and take-in one of the many free Christmas Season concerts at churches and halls around London.

Tonight we will travel together to Rules, the famous literary haunt of Charles Dickens and London's oldest restaurant. We'll have a Christmas party and dinner to celebrate our time together. After dinner we'll enjoy a small gift exchange and a reading from Dicken' "A Christmas Carol".

Monday, December 8 - Check out of the hotel this morning and we'll board a private coach for Heathrow in plenty of time for our flight home.
